House prices in the UK on the rise

Prices in the 3 months to March were 2.7% higher than a year earlier

• This comes as a surprise after Halifax reported declines in prices in December and January
• Prices rose by 1.5% in March this year since the prior month
• This is despite London house prices falling at the fastest rate in nine years, according to Halifax
• Prices in London were down 3.2& between January and March
• However, East Anglia and the East Midlands showed the highest increases of 7.2% and 7.3%.
• One surveyor, Toby Whittome of Jackson-Stops in London, said stamp duty increases and Brexit had “killed the fluidity of the London market”. – The Guardian

• The average price of a UK property rose by 1.5 per cent in March compared to February to hit £227,871 – the highest figure on record, the mortgage lender said – This Is Money
